The Wall Street Journal wrote a very interesting article on how technology is making us rethink how we watch television. They touched on how companies like Intel and Apple are trying to use their technologies to “take control the living room”. Intel is creating a DVR style functionality that will allow users who join a live television show in the middle of it and simply go to the start. This differs from what is currently offered as you typically cannot rewind a show that you hadn’t been previously watching. They are planning to record every single broadcast on a server for people to watch and store it for at least 3 days. This would incredibly change the viewing experience of the viewers. Being able to find almost anything on Intel’s cloud would be incredible. Intel isn’t the only company branching out. Microsoft, Apple, Google, and Sony are all looking to expand in the wireless and cloud based television area. See Google Chromecast as an example. The way we watch television is changing, we will have to see which company leads the way as we venture into a new era of the television experience.
